From everyday objects to gourmet dishes, these cakes pushed the boundaries of baking and artistry, proving that in the world of cake decorating, seeing is not always believing.
Taking the coveted first place was the whimsically titled "Scrub-a-Dub," crafted by Joanne Matthews. This masterpiece, disguised as a washing-up bowl complete with plates, Fairy liquid, and sponges, was not only a feast for the eyes but a trick to the mind as well. The attention to detail was so meticulous that many onlookers were tempted to reach out and start scrubbing!
The runner-up, "Seafood Dreams," transported viewers to a coastal feast. Created by Danielle Rigg, this stunning cake featured a seafood platter with a realistically painted lobster and an assortment of fish, all laid out on a plate that seemed ready for a seaside banquet. The delicate brushwork and vibrant colours captured the essence of the ocean, making it a close contender for the top prize.
Third place was awarded to the caffeine lover’s paradise, "Addicted to Coffee" an elaborate illusion featuring a life-like coffee machine, complete with coffee pods and a steaming cup of coffee, all edible and exquisitely detailed. Daisy Brydon, the talented baker behind this creation, amazed spectators with the cake’s realistic appearance and intricate details.
Presenting the KitchenAid prizes to the winners was none other than Oli the Choc, whose presence added a delightful touch to the ceremony. The competition this year was particularly fierce, with entries that looked too real to slice. The judges faced a tough decision as each cake not only showcased exceptional skill in baking but also in artistic presentation. Visitors were left marvelling at the ingenuity and flair displayed, proving once again that the Ideal Home Show is a pinnacle of not just home innovation, but also of culinary artistry.
Each of these cakes tells a story of countless hours of dedication and a deep passion for pushing the envelope of what is possible in cake decorating.
