Matt Smith-Wood
Matt’s passion for interiors and vintage objects was sparked at an early age through working alongside his father, an antique restorer. After studying Interior Architecture & Design at Coventry University and UIC Barcelona, he honed his skills as a kitchen and bathroom designer, prioritising meaningful design on each of his projects. Inspired by Brutalist architecture and the interplay of light and shadow, Matt creates spaces that seamlessly blend functionality with aesthetics. Natural materials, Japanese furniture and modern art are all cited as influences in his designs.
Matt was a finalist on series 5 of flagship BBC show Interior Design Masters. Presented by interiors guru Michelle Ogundehin with Alan Carr and judged by a raft of high-profile designers from Jonathan Adler to Abigail Ahern, entrepreneurs such as Mary Portas and celebrities such as Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
Matt is fast becoming a key figure in the UK interior design industry. His rising profile has allowed him to focus on his own interior designs practice. His first project to launch is in association with the Standard Hotel Lisbon, and he is working on several other commissions throughout the UK and internationally.
Matt has worked for some years as a specialist bathroom designer, and this is the focus for his talks; his curated tile collection launches with Victorian Plumbing this spring and will feature in his review on creating an inspirational, design-led space in the smallest room of the house.
